It's been a while since we've given an update on this. One of the reasons being a continuous change in approach due to some minor limitations out of our control.
We've been trying to make everything work seamlessly within the existing app. However, we're having a hard time achieving the desired level of flexibility and quality without compromising any future Pixify features. One limitation we're battling with is that we're only allowed 100kb liquid code throughout our app. This includes App block code and customization. We're currently at 95kb - this means there's not a lot of space left for new blocks, customization or features.
We've decided to a different direction and pull this feature out of the app and bake it into a dedicated Pixify Subscription app. This allow us to deliver a much better future proof product. This might also mean the app has to function as a standalone app without any dependencies to the main Pixify app. This increases scope quite a lot.
We've trying to get hold of Shopify to help us come up with the best approach.

A quick update: We're aiming for a native Shopify integration that allows you all to get started without any third-party integrations. This has led us into a few roadblocks which means we're running behind schedule. Stay tuned :)

We're in the process of implementing a "Subscribe and download X files", with multiple plan tiers and granular control over what files are included in what plans.

I agree, it's a great idea!
